Loretta reports:
"Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses." Marilyn Monroe pointed this out in How to Marry a Millionaire, while contriving to look as sexy and glamorous as ever in her spectacles.
Here's advice on choosing the right eyeglasses in the 1950s.

Love this! I just ordered new glasses that look very similar to the "cat's eye" style. I can't wait to get them.
"Men seldom make passes..." was of course first said by the inimitable Dorothy Parker.
Love this video. Loretta are you a Lowell girl?
This isn't a Marilyn Monroe quote. It's vintage Dorothy Parker, one of the great gal writers/wits of the twentieth century.
'Men seldom make passes/At girls who wear glasses.'
Yikes. I'm having flashbacks.
Sorry about the bad writing: I wasn't intending to make it sound as though Marilyn was the author of the quote, rather than simply repeating it, as many women did and still do, strangely enough. I was only trying to call attention to the irony of someone like Marilyn imagining that glasses would make her unappealing to men. No, I'm not a Lowell girl, Mary Jane.
So glad that glasses have evolved...But this was a great video..
Um, sorry, but I wouldn't be caught dead in any of those overly flashy glasses. Glad they're almost invisible now!
Wow! Glasses has really proven that it will never ran out of style, no matter how long it takes. Now I can see why most people still loves wearing different kinds of glasses, whether it's designers or prescriptions.
