Here's an actual coat from the collection posted at the Republic of Pemberley. Not quite so frou-frou, I think, as the examples in fashion prints.

The coat from the Pemberley collection is lovely.
I hated to leave anyone thinking that all men carried it to an extreme--or that Dain was so foppish. I've been trying to find stills from Onegin, to show how very elegant Ralph Fiennes looked, as did others in 1830s attire.
