At 11AM on 11/11/11, on the day originally called Armistice Day, many parts of the world will observe two minutes of silence in honor of the men and women of the armed services, past and present.
This short video brings us excerpts from letters written by men who fought in that Great War to end all wars, the war that gave us Armistice Day.
that was very interesting to listen to. I have a few notes my great uncle had written while he was in WWI - I need to find out more about his service.
ReplyDeleteI was tied up doing things yesterday and didn't get a chance to comment on this, but I just find it fascinating that even in the trenches, with such adverse conditions, men were still able to carry on a bit or normalcy by writing letters and such.

ReplyDeleteNot that the rest of the letters didn't get to me, but imagine sitting in the midst of your dead friends, sending a letter home in an almost normal, conversational tone.
So sad! Like nightsmusic, the respirator comment really lingered. But all of them were so poignant.
