Thomas Paine was NOT an atheist. H...David is right. Thomas Paine was NOT an atheist. He was a writer, poet, politician, sailor, teacher, and yes, stay maker. But there was one other thing which he was famous for. After moving away from London to start his own stay making business (he was nearly bankrupt and this job payed very well) Thomas Paine would preach on sundays. I may not write books or have my own web page, but I do know that most preachers aren't atheists. Thomas Paine was not the best preacher, however, which explains why he was famous for his writing, not his sermons.
