Working it leaves a smooth finished work that becomes the top, and the top becomes the underneath! That has a regular look of machine down embroidery because it looks smooth and even, without the vagaries hand stitching would leave.mamafroghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215031912797290210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022318990784415929.post-26710194387788059192010-12-20T09:05:45.557-05:002010-12-20T09:05:45.557-05:00Thank you, all, for the kind words.

Probably, true, too.<br /><br />Anonymous 2, I don't believe it's tambour work, but embroidery. I think I remember reading that once gaslight came into play, white clothing made everybody look washed out and that's why coal-tar derivative/aniline dyes with their strong colors became so popular.<br />Searching for a source for that, but coming up short, so don't necessarily quote me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022318990784415929.post-91272927831210600922010-12-17T08:20:25.609-05:002010-12-17T08:20:25.609-05:00Well, it was once declared that..."A woman ca...Well, it was once declared that...<i>"A woman can never be too fine while she is all in white..."</i> and even though it was Edmund Bertram who made that statement (!) ,I agree with him in regard to the example shown in your post.
