It is part of the larger fraktur collection at the Free Library, but there are some Anglo-American pieces in that collection. The Quakers were fond of these sorts of romantic forms.padutchchickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12142929541258912042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022318990784415929.post-91540779609011833042015-04-16T06:59:46.256-04:002015-04-16T06:59:46.256-04:00Lady Smatter - You are completely right about the ...Lady Smatter - You are completely right about the second image showing not an envelope, but the unfolded piece. Don't know what I was thinking, esp. since it's clearly identified as such on the FLP site (not to mention that envelopes weren't yet in use in 1800.) Chalk it up to blog-writing done too late at night. Thank you for the catch, and I've corrected accordingly. :)Isabella Bradford/Susan Holloway Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00997375216314200469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022318990784415929.post-66497541557259166992015-04-16T06:58:46.649-04:002015-04-16T06:58:46.649-04:00It looks a lot like an origami waterlily. It looks a lot like an origami waterlily.Karen Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13306986336556283751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022318990784415929.post-81370497819301500602015-04-16T06:58:08.155-04:002015-04-16T06:58:08.155-04:00I think the center in the first photo must also op...I think the center in the first photo must also open up.Karen Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13306986336556283751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5022318990784415929.post-45643019203066907782015-04-16T05:54:47.648-04:002015-04-16T05:54:47.648-04:00Just gorgeous. I did some research on this piece and made a reproduction for Valentine's Day this year. The second image here shows not an "envelope", but another view of the same piece of paper unfolded. It's quite a complex and clever design, as I learned when I made my reproduction.
You can see my analysis of this piece (and two other similar artefacts) here: 3 Love Tokens)
And my reproduction here:My Dear This Heart.Lady Smatterhttps://herreputationforaccomplishment.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
